The Team Lead, Primary - will provide technical leadership and specialist engineering expertise within the Development & Future Networks (D&FN) Infrastructure Engineering team.
In this role, you will be responsible for building and leading a high-performing engineering team through effective leadership, capability development, strategic workforce planning, and fostering a culture of technical excellence. You will play a key role in ensuring the organisation has the skills, capacity, and capability required to meet current business objectives while positioning the team to successfully address future challenges and opportunities.
Success in this role is characterised by impactful and influential leadership not only within the team, but with your peers and colleagues, provide clear strategic and holistic thinking, and an ability to build relationships across broad stakeholder groups to delivery engineering excellence for D&FN.
What you’ll be doing in this role:
- Lead and develop a high-performing engineering team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, inclusion, safety, wellbeing and continuous improvement.
- Coach, mentor and support engineers at all levels, driving capability development, succession planning and career growth through structured development pathways and leadership opportunities.
- Develop and execute the engineering discipline strategy, aligning team capability, performance and resources with business objectives and future organisational needs.
- Provide technical leadership, governance and assurance, ensuring engineering quality, professional excellence and the consistent application of standards and best practice.
- Act as a senior technical authority, delivering specialist expertise, informed engineering judgement and strategic input to projects, technical decisions and portfolio priorities.
- Lead workforce planning and resource management, ensuring engineering capacity, capability and priorities are aligned to support successful project delivery and long-term business commitments.
- Build and maintain trusted stakeholder relationships across AusNet and external partners, influencing outcomes, removing barriers and driving enterprise-wide success.
- Champion innovation, knowledge sharing and engineering excellence, promoting continuous improvement, effective risk management and the delivery of safe, efficient and high-quality outcomes across the project portfolio.
You don’t need to check every box, however we’re looking for a good combination of:
- 8-10+ years’ experience in utilities with proficiency in design and asset management
- May possess a second degree or postgraduate qualification
- Prior experience across engineering leadership, as well as design and construction with the business acumen and ability to meet engineering design excellence
- Knowledge of electrical equipment in respect to design, performance, functionality, operation, and maintenance as used in Terminal Stations and Substations rated at up to 500kV in accordance with relevant Australian Standards (e.g. AS2067)
- Proven capability in developing conceptual plans into feasible designs and producing high quality design deliverables such as drawings and scope of works including management of budgets and schedules
- Considerable knowledge of key engineering disciplines and their impacts on Terminal Station & Substation design and equipment selection (e.g. Primary, Secondary, Civils, Structural, Communications, etc.)
- Demonstrated ability to liaise with project related teams such as project managers, construction contractors, communications, real time systems team and other Network Service Providers
- Ability to effectively solve problems and demonstrate proactivity
- A high level of organisational skills and demonstrated effectively handling multiple tasks, setting priorities, managing timeframes and meeting deadlines under pressure
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
