The Development and Future Networks team lead strategic growth in energy. Building customer, community and stakeholder support for delivering greenfield transmission, generation and load connections, storage infrastructure, aggregated DER and clean mobility solutions.

The Statutory & Environmental Planning Officer will provide expert guidance on statutory planning, environmental approvals, cultural heritage, and regulatory compliance within the Planning & Environment (P&E) stream of the CELP business unit.

In high demand, this expertise will support AusNet’s DF&N transmission connection projects and Mondo’s small-scale renewable energy projects. The role ensures successful planning and delivery of major infrastructure projects for renewable energy developers partnering with AusNet, contributing to Australia’s renewable energy future.

With a 3/2 Hybrid (Office/WFH) split this role is based in CBD with Ad-Hoc travel to site and is part of the Community Engagement and Land Planning Team.

 

This role will deliver real outcomes, including but not limited to:

  • Analysis of Project Brief documents and identification of requirements connected to land and easement acquisition, planning and environment approvals and cultural heritage.
  • Conduct thorough reviews of statutory planning documentation to identify relevant terms and conditions. Develop detailed reports to effectively communicate these findings to project teams.
  • Contribute to the end-to-end statutory planning process to secure complex planning and environment approvals in Victoria and other states for the construction and management of electrical infrastructure or renewable energy infrastructure.
  • Provide planning support to projects during their delivery phase to ensure compliance with approved development and management plans.
  • Ensure AusNet secures freehold ownership of terminal station infrastructure by coordinating with external consultants. This includes managing the subdivision permit application process while leveraging Utility exemptions to facilitate land acquisition from developers.
  • Provide regular milestone updates to the Planning & Environment (P&E) team and the broader CELP team during weekly stand-up meetings and more comprehensive monthly meetings.
  • Contribute to the CELP minimum standard register, by applying lessons learned from existing projects to develop and refine these standards. This will help reduce risks and improve the execution of future projects.

You don’t need to check every box; however, we are looking for a good combination of:

  • Tertiary qualification as a minimum in Town Planning, Statutory and/or Environmental Planning or closely related discipline.
  • Planning Institute of Australia (PIA) accreditation or, Victorian Planning and Environmental Law (VEPLA) Membership preferred 
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in Statutory and/or Environmental Planning in Victoria, with at least 5 years in a senior role Electricity infrastructure, renewable energy or energy background
  • Detailed knowledge and experience with the Victorian Planning Scheme and related schedules.
  • Experience in developing and managing planning permit applications for land use, works, vegetation removal, and subdivisions.
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to and support multiple projects simultaneously in planning, environmental & land sectors, while achieving milestones and coordinating effectively with other disciplines within project teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and logically about statutory planning matters, particularly in written report formats and offer clear advice to stakeholders for successful project delivery.
  • Proven ability to collaborate in a team-oriented environment, enhancing team effectiveness, while also capable of working independently when required.
