In this role as a Senior Reconciliation Action Plan Implementation Advisor, you will plan, develop, implement and refine the strategic direction for implementing the Reconciliation Action Plan activities including establishing clear timelines, deliverables and performance indicators.

You will also be responsible for a tailored approach to engaging with Traditional Owners and First Nations organisations reflective of their unique cultural needs and expectation.

 

With a 3/2 Hybrid split Office / WFH, this role can be based in Southbank and is part of the Community Engagement, Land and Planning team.

 

This role will deliver real outcomes, including but not limited to:

  • Plan, develop and refine the methodology for implementing the RAP, aligning with the organisation's goals and objectives, and integrating reconciliation initiatives into all aspects of our operations.
  • Provide overall governance and secretariat support to AusNet’s RAP Working Group and prepare relevant reporting for internal and external audiences regarding progress of the RAP.
  • Establish a robust monitoring and reporting framework to track the progress, outcomes, and impact of reconciliation initiatives, that reflect the perspectives and aspirations of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff and stakeholders.
  • Foster and maintain strong relationships with Traditional Owners (including Registered Aboriginal Parties), Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members, community organisations and community members, relevant government bodies such as First Peoples - State Relations (FP-SR) and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to drive reconciliation efforts.
  • Provide high quality advice to project teams and more broadly across the business on Traditional Owner matters and on engaging with Traditional Owners.
  • Work closely with teams across the organisation to ensure policies, guidelines, and programs support the implementation of reconciliation strategies and initiatives, ensuring they are consistent with best practices, legal requirements and cultural sensitivities.
  • Develop and implement communication plans (in consultation with AusNet’s corporate communications team) to raise awareness, understanding and support for the RAP.
  • Continuously assess the effectiveness of the RAP implementation in consultation with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff and identify and present opportunities for improvement.
  • Identify opportunities for internal events and other activities to promote key RAP achievements and other culturally important events such as (but not limited to) NAIDOC and Reconciliation Week.

 

You don’t need to check every box; however, we are looking for a good combination of:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Communications, Project Management or other relevant discipline
  • Significant project experience working with Traditional Owner groups and/or Registered Aboriginal Parties
  • Applied experience with IAP2 principles and standards preferred
  • An understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
  • Ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
  • Commitment to cultural sensitivity and fostering positive relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
  • Familiarity with RAP frameworks
  • Exceptional project, risk, and time management and planning skills to drive project implementation
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Experience in active engagement and relationship building skills across a range of stakeholder types.
