About the role

We have an opportunity for a Senior Planning & Environmental Specialist to join our team. This role will drive excellent environmental performance across construction and operational activities along the WRL corridor.

You will support the planning and delivery of the project, developing and implementing strategies to meet environmental performance requirements, while providing leadership to delivery teams and contractors to achieve regulatory compliance and best practice outcomes.

 

About the team

 

The Development and Future Networks team leads strategic growth in energy, building customer, community and stakeholder support to deliver greenfield transmission, generation and load connections, storage infrastructure, aggregated DER and clean mobility solutions.

The Western Renewables Link Project (WRL) is the largest transmission build of its kind in more than three decades and a critical piece of infrastructure, delivering energy from wind and solar farms in western Victoria to homes across the state and the National Electricity Market.

 

 

What you’ll be doing in this role:

 

  • Provide expert technical advice on assessing and mitigating environmental impacts, shaping planning and environmental management strategies, documents and procedures.
  • Develop and implement strategies required by Environmental Performance Requirements, supporting regulatory compliance and best practice.
  • Provide expert planning and environmental advice to construction contractors and AusNet’s project team.
  • Prepare environmental reports, plans and presentations for leadership, the client and approval authorities, including the Department of Planning.
  • Support contractors with reviews of presentations and participation in meetings with approval authorities.
  • Assess gaps in environmental processes and propose adjustments to improve efficiency and outcomes.
  • Review technical fact sheets on environmental matters and provide expert advice to the communications team.
  • Contribute to Recordable Injury Frequency Rate targets and mission Zero health and safety conversations.

 

You don’t need to check every box, however we’re looking for a good combination of:

 

  • Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Planning or other relevant degree
  • 7-10 years’ experience in successfully undertaking environmental planning, preferably working on large infrastructure projects subject to the EES process
  • Demonstrated experience of major projects in Victoria (preferably linear projects) and managing secondary approvals 
  • Experience in construction phase of projects
  • Exceptional time management and project planning / management skills
  • Excellent knowledge of statutory planning, environmental approvals, and general government approvals processes experience in construction and delivery advantageous
  • An autonomous team player who required minimal supervision but works well within constraints of a highly critical and public facing project; knows when to reach out for support and how to progress
  • Resilience and flexibility to prioritise tasks in accordance with changing project priorities and climate
