Purposeful work with genuinely good people. That’s refreshing.

This role will see you delivering detailed fault data analysis, perform investigations and provide a range of reports on the Distribution Electricity Networks’ performance.  As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will provide a high level of expertise and technical support to the Network Reliability team and broader Ausnet stakeholders in analysing network incident and reliability performance data.

Your exceptional communication and relationship-building skills will be critical in fostering a culture of ownership and accountability among our team and AusNet stakeholders, to drive the execution of innovative technological solutions that will deliver tangible network reliability benefits for our customers and organisation.

With a Hybrid split (Office/WFH), this can be based at any of our AusNet hubs or our office in Melbourne CBD, and is part of the Network Reliability Improvement – Network Management team.

This role will deliver real outcomes, including but not limited to:

  • Identification of network reliability improvement opportunities and make recommendations that will maximise financial incentive performance and customer satisfaction, through the detailed assessment of network faults, asset and protection performance, overlaid with an understanding of emerging technologies and regulatory / industry change.
  • Develop, maintain and communicate tools which utilises data from critical asset and network management systems, that enables in-depth monitoring and early detection into areas of deteriorating network performance and customer reliability.
  • Provide sound engineering advice and provide collaborative support to AusNet stakeholders and project teams invested in network and customer reliability outcomes.
  • Support and contribute to relevant procedures, practices, systems, projects, regulatory submissions, business cases and network asset strategy development with the purpose of improving all short and long term reliability outcomes.
  • Develop and support the engineering capability within AusNet Electricity Distribution business with particular focus on educating and embedding customer reliability considerations throughout the lifecycle of the network and assets.
  • Undertake/support comprehensive assessment of network performance and reliability (long & short-term), identify areas of the network at risk of changing performance in the future, and develop contingency plans and network solutions.
  • Simplify complex engineering analysis for non-engineers (e.g. setting priorities of defects to maintenance staff)
  • At the project planning stage, identify potential constructability, operability or maintainability risks and provide alternate work staging or coordination to reduce potential reliability risk where appropriate.
  • Understanding of the regulatory framework, legacy and emerging technologies, and network topologies to identify the appropriate solutions to customer reliability issues.

You don’t need to check every box; however, we are looking for a good combination of:

  • Bachelor of Electrical Engineering.
  • Registered Engineer.
  • 7 + years’ experience within the electricity supply industry.
  • An advanced level of reasoning skills and engineering judgement.
  • Understanding of and proficiency in using electricity distribution network management systems or relevant software.
  • Advanced engineering knowledge to support electricity sub-transmission and distribution network innovation.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to leverage data-driven insights to inform decision-making and optimise network reliability.
