As the Senior Lines Engineer (Distribution), you’ll provide specialised engineering expertise for AusNet’s distribution lines network, everything on the poles and wires. You’ll support sound asset decisions and optimise cost, risk and performance across the asset lifecycle.

 

The role focuses on network safety, risk management, failure investigations, asset performance insights, compliance and standards development, working closely with DNSPs, Regulatory bodies, consultancies and internal stakeholders across the utility and generation sector.

 

This is a technically focused role that directly influences the reliability and resilience of Victoria’s distribution network.

 

With a hybrid working arrangement, this role is based in Southbank and sits within the Asset Management team in AusNet’s Distribution Network.

 

What you’ll be doing in this role: 

  • Provide an overview of Network asset performance, leading to the provision of appropriate and timely advice for the overall effective management of Network assets.
  • Identify and implement innovative asset management techniques.
  • Lead the development and implementation of asset management and replacement strategies.
  • Establish contingency and risk management plans to ensure appropriate Network asset management decisions are made.
  • Manage consultants, contractors and other service providers as they relate to asset management activities.
  • Participate in discussions with auditors and stakeholders regarding Network assets.
  • Provide professional and specialist engineering advice and support.
  • Provide expertise on strategies, asset performance, and technical specifications.
  • Creation of equipment standards and maintenance policies.
  • Develop concepts, prepare business cases, and manage project documentation.
  • Review and evaluate the condition of installed cables and distribution line assets
  • Investigate equipment failures, draft reports, and make informed technical decisions
  • Ensure all documentation is current and up to date and participate in audits
  • Provide technical support for emergency response events as required
  • Present asset management strategies and/or plans to asset management stakeholders both internal and external as required.

 

You don't need to check every box; however, we are looking for a good combination of:

  • Degree qualified in Engineering or equivalent discipline
  • In-depth knowledge of distribution system components, equipment, and technologies, with a focus on overhead and underground line equipment, and emerging trends and innovations.
  • Knowledge of relevant inspection and maintenance strategies for distribution power poles, overhead and underground conductors, pole top hardware and assets such as transformers, reclosers, fuses, and switches.
  • Demonstrated expertise in developing and implementing strategic asset management plans, preferably in a regulated environment.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to leverage data-driven insights to inform decision-making and optimise asset performance.
