We are seeking an experienced Senior Counsel, Operations and Regulation to join our high-performing Legal team. Reporting to the Deputy General Counsel, Operations, Customer and Regulation, you will provide practical, accurate and outcome-focused legal advice across a varied portfolio of energy regulatory, operational and commercial matters.

What you will be doing in this role:
- Provide strategic legal advice on energy regulation, policy, compliance and broader legal matters.
- Support regulatory submissions, enquiries, applications, consultations, price reviews, licences, accreditations, exemptions and regulated processes.
- Advise on regulatory engagement, climate change risk and reporting initiatives, emissions reporting and related schemes.
- Draft and negotiate contracts for goods and services supporting network operations.
- Respond to requests from industry regulators and assist with the resolution of claims.
- Build trusted relationships with subject matter experts, managers, project leads and colleagues across the broader Legal team.
- Share regulatory insights and lessons learned to strengthen regulatory and policy capability across the organisation.
- Deliver clear, actionable legal solutions in matters that may involve uncertainty or limited direction.
What we’re looking for:
Regulatory experience is essential for this position. You will bring significant legal experience gained within a law firm, government agency, regulator or in-house environment.
You don’t need to check every box, however we’re looking for a good combination of:
- 6 to 8 years or more post-qualified experience as an Australian Legal Practitioner or equivalent.
- A current practising certificate, noting that foreign qualifications or transitional arrangements may be considered individually.
- Strong contract drafting and negotiation experience.
- Sound knowledge of contract fundamentals and principles.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Highly developed stakeholder management and negotiation capabilities.
- Strong commercial and business acumen.
- An analytical approach and sound decision-making skills.
- A collaborative style and the confidence to work effectively in uncertain or evolving circumstances.
- Experience influencing senior stakeholders in an in-house environment, which is highly desirable.
