Now, we’re looking for a Senior Legal Counsel - known internally at AusNet as Associate Counsel, to join our high-performing Legal and Company Secretarial team. As Associate Counsel, you’ll work closely with almost all divisions of the business and collaborate across the organisation to deliver pragmatic, ethical, and outcome-focused legal solutions. Reporting to the Deputy General Counsel – Regulation & Operations, you’ll be a trusted advisor who helps shape strategic decisions and ensures compliance in a dynamic industry.
What You’ll Do
- Provide strategic legal advice and solutions to enable AusNet to achieve its objectives.
- Draft, negotiate, and execute complex contracts for network operations and maintenance, and digital/procurement.
- Advise on claims and disputes, liaising with insurers and external counsel where required.
- Engage with industry regulators, such as Energy Safe, AEMO, AER, ESC, the EPA, and WorkSafe.
- Support leadership with project-specific and broader strategic legal advice.
- Drive process improvements and contribute to legal template development.
- Build strong relationships with stakeholders across the business.
What We’re Looking For
- Tertiary qualification in Law and admission to practice in Australia.
- 7–9 years’ experience in-house or private practice, ideally with exposure to employment and industrial law.
- Strong contract drafting and negotiation skills.
- Ability to influence senior stakeholders and work autonomously.
- Commercial acumen, adaptability, and a collaborative mindset.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience in safety, energy regulation, or working with regulators is highly desirable.
