A great opportunity has become available for a Lead Grid Connections Engineer to join us and take the lead of AusNet’s distribution network service provider activities for end-to-end network connection projects and provide expert guidance and solutions.

About the role

This role will focus on undertaking comprehensive and detailed analysis of generation, storage and load connections to the AusNet electricity distribution network. As part of the shift to renewable energy across our electricity distribution network you will be expected to undertake the technical studies required by connections.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Undertaking comprehensive and detailed network analysis in SINCAL, PSCAD, PSSE, Power Factory to ensure compliance
  • Negotiating and preparing Generation Performance standards and supporting reports.
  • Investigating network security, capacity, reliability and quality of supply issues related to the generator, storage & load connections to the distribution network
  • Liaise with relevant internal and external stakeholders and co-ordinate development of solutions for major connections to electricity distribution network.
  • Assist in development of strategies (technical, process, system, capability) that enable the successful negotiation of new connection opportunities
  • Influence end-to-end grid connection process, generator performance standard, R0, R1 and R2 processes.
  • Maintaining effective relationship with customers and key stakeholders, including AEMO and participation in industry advocacy forums with other NEM participants

 

 

About you

You don’t need to tick every box; however, we are looking for a good combination of:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Electrical Engineering or a discipline relevant to power systems analysis, electricity transmission, distribution and generation.
  • At least 5+ years’ experience in the energy industry preferably with some of it in utilities
  • Advanced technical knowledge and robust experience in grid connection engineering
  • Strong experience in leading or facilitating grid connections, and plant commissioning and testing, will be highly regarded.
  • Computer aided simulation using PSCAD, PSSE, Power Factory and SINCAL.
  • Ability to Interpret and implement business strategies
  • Broad understanding of the energy regulatory landscape
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple stakeholders
  • Ability to operate autonomously and operate with minimum guidance/direction

 

You are self-motivated, have excellent time management and stakeholder engagement skills, able to communicate across a broad internal and external audience.
