Finance & Strategy plays a critical role in driving the sustainable improvement of financial performance, while ensuring strong commercial outcomes and sound risk management.
The Group Finance function oversees external financial reporting, key financial controls and frameworks across AusNet, as well as critical back‑office functions including General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Tax, Fixed Assets and Treasury.
Within this group, the Group Reporting & Controls team is responsible for the preparation of statutory reporting and the associated external audit. The team also plays a key role in maintaining a sound financial control environment, including balance sheet reconciliations, SAP user access and the application of the Delegation of Authority manual.
This role sits at the centre of financial reporting and control across AusNet, supporting strong governance, accuracy and compliance.
The Senior Financial Accountant will support the Group Reporting & Controls Manager with complex accounting processes and the associated audit. This includes work across leases, share‑based payments, provisions, tax‑effect accounting and segment reporting, as well as providing technical accounting advice to the broader finance team.
The role also involves the preparation of financial statements and related analytical reviews, playing a key role in supporting accurate, high‑quality financial reporting.
What you’ll be doing in this role:
- Lead delivery of complex, high‑impact technical accounting across lease accounting, share‑based payments, provisions, segment reporting and tax‑effect accounting
- Provide clear, high‑quality technical accounting advice to the broader finance team and business stakeholders
- Prepare financial statements, month‑end deliverables and insightful analytical reviews
- Manage audit activity end‑to‑end, responding to audit queries and overseeing the audit process
- Contribute to Board and Audit Committee reporting
- Support due diligence activities and maintain strong internal controls for Group reporting
- Ensure financial integrity through effective governance and control frameworks
- Work closely with the Senior Treasury Accountant on settlement execution
- Own key finance control functions, including balance sheet reconciliations, SAP role security and management of the Delegation of Authority
You don’t need to check every box, however we’re looking for a good combination of:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance or related discipline
- CA / CPA qualified (CA preferred), with a minimum of 3 years from Big 4 (or similar) and industry experience (prefer regulated infrastructure industry knowledge)
- Strong knowledge of accounting standards with experience across the full suite of financial accounting activities
- A proven track record of delivering accurate, high‑quality financial reporting
- Experience with SAP ERP (preferred but not essential)
- Advanced Excel skills and strong proficiency across the Microsoft Office suite
- Well‑developed communication, analytical and time‑management skills
