Due to growth within the team, we have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Financial Accountant to play a crucial role in delivering the financial accounting and reporting function, ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards, statutory reporting obligations and AusNet’s control and policies.
In this role, you will take ownership of a set of diverse complex accounting processes related to month-end reporting and financial statement preparation. Some key areas you will work across include leases, provisions, cash flow statements, tax-effect accounting, cost allocations, and segment reporting. You will also prepare financial statements, respond to audit queries, assist with analytical review and board papers, work through ad-hoc tasks and provide advice to the broader finance team.
This is an ideal role for someone who is detailed oriented and thrives in a fast-paced environment with a strong accounting background. We are looking for someone who is comfortable rolling up their sleeves to solve problems, who is collaborative in nature but also can work independently. This is also a great role for someone who has a growth mindset and is looking to develop in their career.
With a 3/2 Hybrid split Office / WFH, this role is based in Southbank, Victoria. This role will report to the Statutory Reporting Manager and is part of the wider
Finance, Strategy & Legal team.
This role will deliver real outcomes, including but not limited to:
- Assist the Statutory Reporting Manager with complex accounting processes including:
- Lease accounting
- Cash flow statements
- Provisions
- Cost allocation and segment reporting
- Tax-effect accounting
- Prepare technical accounting advice to the broader finance team
- Preparation of financial statements and associated analytical reviews
- Respond to audit queries
- Assist in preparation of Board and Audit Committee papers
- Due diligence procedures and internal controls for Group reporting
You don’t need to check every box; however, we are looking for a good combination of:
- Chartered Accountant, CPA or equivalent qualifications
- Exposure to a large, complex business in a similar role or a Big-4 first mover with an audit background (preferably experience in the energy, utilities or infrastructure sector)
- Experience in full suite of financial accounting tasks and strong experience in accurate financial reporting and application of accounting standards
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including advanced functions and data analysis tools
- Experience with SAP or similar ERP systems is highly desirable
- Ability to work under tight deadlines and to engage and communicate with direct team members and the wider finance team
