We’re looking for a Senior Engineer – OT Communications to join our specialist engineering team delivering technical expertise across a diverse and complex projects portfolio. In this role, you’ll provide leadership, deep technical knowledge and hands‑on engineering capability to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest quality standards.
You’ll work closely with internal stakeholders across Transmission and Distribution, contributing to the design, operation and continuous improvement of AusNet’s OT Communications Network, Remote SCADA and associated systems, including cyber security.
How You’ll Make an Impact
As a Senior Engineer, you will:
- Lead the delivery of scope, estimates and detailed designs, ensuring outcomes are cost‑effective, timely and high quality
- Apply advanced engineering expertise to solve complex design and operational challenges
- Provide specialist support for OT communications networks, including SCADA, fibre, radio, Ethernet and telephony systems
- Take technical ownership of incidents, problems and service requests, ensuring availability, reliability and performance targets are met
- Develop and maintain technology roadmaps, aligned to vendor and industry capabilities
- Mentor and guide junior engineers, while providing trusted technical advice to business stakeholders
- Participate in the electrical DC design for the cubicles, layouts, and power distribution
- Assist in the battery design and ensure it complies with safety standards
- Support the team to ensure all regulatory obligations and safety design standards are being met
- Support the production of technical maintenance and plant guidance documentation (installation, testing and commissioning)
- Ensure compliance through actively engaging with stakeholders and maintain awareness of relevant legislation, laws, regulations, standards, codes and Ausnet policies and procedures
- Champion continuous improvement, innovation and best‑practice engineering standards
What You’ll Be Responsible For:
- Designing and documenting end‑to‑end communications architectures, topologies and configurations
- Ensuring all designs meet regulatory, safety and security requirements, including SoCI obligations
- Supporting service availability, disaster recovery planning and testing
- Providing escalation‑level operational support and fault investigation
- Working closely with delivery partners and vendors to resolve complex technical issues
- Producing high‑quality technical documentation for installation, testing and commissioning
- Driving collaboration and knowledge sharing across engineering, operations and project teams
About You
You’re a curious, pragmatic engineer who enjoys solving complex problems and simplifying them for others. You take pride in quality, safety and collaboration, and you’re motivated by work that makes a real difference.
You’ll bring:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Communications Engineering
- Extensive experience designing and operating OT communications solutions, ideally within utilities or critical infrastructure
- Strong exposure to Transmission and Distribution environments and asset‑centric systems (e.g. SCADA, SAP Asset Management, fibre and radio networks)
- Proven leadership and mentoring capability, without needing formal people management
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work across diverse, geographically dispersed stakeholders
- Eligibility for Chartered Membership with Engineers Australia.
- A valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel as required
