We have an opportunity for a Senior Deal Execution & Commercial Manager to take the driver’s seat and lead commercial negotiations and deal execution for our BESS projects.

Lead commercial negotiations and deal execution for a portfolio of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) projects across Victoria and NSW.

With a 3/2 Hybrid split, this role is based in Melbourne CBD and is part of the Storage, Distributed Energy, Development & Future Networks team.

This role will deliver real outcomes, including but not limited to:

    • Manage the suite of contracts during the development phase to financial close.
    • Provide input into project development for control of progress of key contracts including timeline and status updates.
    • Identify and summarise key contractual risks and ensure an owner is working to resolve these issues.
    • Lead the negotiation with the customers (off-takers), BESS OEM providers, contractors, and other suppliers to ensure project-wide value is optimised and realised across all parties involved in the transaction while mitigating risks.
    • Identify residual commercial risks and develop/embed approaches to mitigate risks.
    • Seek input from relevant stakeholders to manage overall commercial risk to the portfolio.
    • Lead the negotiation of and finalise peripheral contracts during the development phase of projects.
    • Lead the preparation of investment business cases in preparation for executive and board review (as and when required).

You don’t need to check every box; however, we are looking for a good combination of:

    • A relevant tertiary qualification in legal, finance, commerce, or other relevant discipline.
    • Extensive experience in commercial negotiations.
    • Experience in managing commercial negotiations for large infrastructure, renewable energy, or energy storage programs of work.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills which evidence a high capacity to influence at all levels including executives.
    • Ability to lead teams of direct and indirect resources, influencing behaviours and output where direct management is not possible.
    • Strong attention to detail, naturally analytically minded problem solver with a knack for identifying risks and issues and proactively addressing them.
    • Detailed understanding of contracts as part of the overall deal process and drive towards a cohesive financial close.
