We are looking for a highly skilled Technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) to provide expert input and advice across the entire asset lifecycle, particularly focusing on high voltage (HV) switchgear and instrument transformers.
As the Senior Asset Engineer (Primary) you will provide specialised expertise to the Asset Management team in high voltage switchgear and instrument transformers. This role will serve as the key focal point for technical matters related to HV switchgear and instrument transformers across all voltage levels up to 550kV.
The successful candidate will be responsible for making critical technical decisions in these areas, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
With a 3/2 Hybrid split Office / WFH, this role can be based in Melbourne CBD, Development & Future Networks team.

This role will deliver real outcomes, including but not limited to:
- Technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) input and advice across whole of asset lifecycle including key focal point with other technical SME’s
- Developing plant strategies, asset management plans.
- Monitoring, analysing, and reporting asset performance, condition and maintenance data.
- Investigating and analysing equipment failures or problems, drafting reports etc.
- Contributing towards maintenance policy/practices.
- Develop concept designs, scope of works, business cases and support delivery of asset replacement and augmentation projects.
- Providing expert input for contestable projects in development and delivery phases including:
- Network and equipment selection and standardisation
- Concept, tender and detailed design reviews and estimation support
- Champion Safety In Design, Value engineering and COM reviews
- Procurement and tender support
- Risk assessments and electrical safety case development support
- Construction and quality assurance support
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of engineering & equipment standards and designs, to ensure compliance with industry standards, legal, technical regulatory, safety obligations and contractual obligations.
You don’t need to check every box; however, we are looking for a good combination of:
- Tertiary qualification in electrical engineering is required.
- 5+ years experience in electricity industry is high regarded.
- Experience in asset owning organisations across network asset management, asset engineering, operations and incident management is highly regarded.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety outcomes.
- In-depth knowledge of HV assets, with a focus on HV switchgear and instrument transformers and emerging trends and innovations.
- Knowledge of relevant condition monitoring and assessment techniques for HV switchgear and instrument transformers
- Commercial acumen, demonstrated ability to operate from a contestable context
- Understanding of Asset Management leading practices, frameworks and relevant standards.
- Experience in the use of SAP or similar ERP systems
