AusNet owns and/or operates approx. $2b of contestable electricity transmission assets and one battery energy storage asset in Victoria. Significant growth in the contestable asset portfolio is projected, via multiple growth opportunity segments including mega-infrastructure projects and mega scale BESS.
As the Senior Asset Engineer BESS within the contestable asset management team, you will be the key point of contact for technical matters related to BESS, collaborating with other technical SMEs across the entire asset lifecycle.
With a 3/2 Hybrid split Office / WFH, this role can be based in Melbourne CBD and is part of the Development & Future Networks team.
This role will deliver real outcomes, including but not limited to:
- Technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) input and advice across whole of asset lifecycle including key focal point with other technical SME’s associated with BESS
- Developing and ongoing management of plant strategies asset management plans and maintenance strategies for the existing BESS and developing mega scale BESS projects
- Analysing the monthly O&M reports and annual performance reports developed by the O&M delivery partners.
- Investigating and analysing equipment failures or problems for the BESS assets.
- Support the identification and management of HSEQ and asset risks for BESS assets.
- Develop concept designs, scope of works, business cases and support delivery of asset replacement and augmentation projects for BESS assets.
- Providing expert input for BESS projects in development and delivery phases including:
- Network and equipment selection and standardisation
- Concept, tender and detailed design reviews and estimation support
- Champion Safety In Design, Value engineering and COM reviews
- Procurement and tender support
- Develop and uplift organisation knowledge around BESS
- Liaise with AEMO and other stakeholders regarding Generator registration and compliance with NERs. Supervise the execution of necessary testing, if required in order to comply with the registered Generator Performance Standards.
You don’t need to check every box; however, we are looking for a good combination of:
- Tertiary qualification in electrical engineering is required.
- 5+ years’ experience in electricity industry particularly utility scale renewable systems is highly regarded.
- Experience in asset owning organisations across network asset management, asset engineering, operations and incident management is highly regarded.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety outcomes.
- In-depth knowledge of utility scale generation assets particularly BESS and/or Solar and emerging trends and innovations.
- Knowledge of operation of utility connected generator in the NEM.
- Knowledge of relevant condition monitoring and assessment techniques for utility scale generation assets particularly BESS and/or Solar
- In depth knowledge of inverter-based technology, power conversion systems (PCSs), Solar and BESS.
- Well versed with the AEMO’s R1 Generator registration procedure, Generator performance standards (GPS) & Generator Compliance Monitoring Program (GCMP).
- Knowledge of R2 Grid compliance testing of Utility scale renewable systems
- Understanding of Asset Management leading practices, frameworks and relevant standards.
- Understanding of relevant Regulatory frameworks and legislation.
- Experience in the use of SAP or similar ERP systems
- Ability to code in Python/MATLAB and knowledge of PSSE/PSCAD are considered as a plus
