We are seeking an experienced Project Controller to join our Development & Future Networks team within Infrastructure Operations & Delivery.
In this role, you will play a pivotal part in supporting the financial management, procurement, reporting, and governance activities across a diverse portfolio of infrastructure projects. Working closely with Project Managers, Project Directors, and the broader Project Services team, you will help ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and in line with organisational objectives and governance requirements.
Reporting indirectly to the Project Services Lead, you will support the effective management of project costs, schedules, and portfolio-wide project controls processes. This includes contributing to project governance activities across risk and issue management, scheduling, budgeting, quality assurance, change control, document management, presentations, and reporting.
As a key member of the project delivery team, you will provide accurate and timely project controls support, helping to drive informed decision-making and successful project outcomes. You will also play an important role in the monthly reporting cycle, ensuring project data is captured, analysed, and reported in accordance with corporate reporting requirements and timelines.

What you’ll be doing in this role:
- Coordinate and maintain project forecasting, budget control and cost reporting, develop accurate estimates at completion (EAC), cash flow forecasts, project phasing and variance analysis across assigned infrastructure projects.
- Monitor and report on project financial performance, including actual costs, commitments, accruals, contingencies, Variations impact and forecast movements, providing timely insights and recommendations to support decision-making.
- Prepare high-quality monthly project cost reports, Earned Value Modules (EVM) and governance reporting for Project Managers, Project Directors, Steering Committees and portfolio stakeholders.
- Support the commercial management of contracts by monitoring contractor claims, progress payments, variations, extensions of time, provisional sums and contingency utilisation, ensuring alignment with approved budgets and scope.
- Manage project procurement and financial administration activities, including purchase requisitions, purchase orders, service entry sheets, goods receipting and invoice resolution within SAP and associated procurement systems.
- Ensure financial governance and data integrity by maintaining accurate cost allocations, coding structures, capital expenditure records, audit trails and compliance with corporate finance and procurement requirements.
- Contribute to project governance, risk management and change control processes by assessing cost impacts, supporting risk reviews, validating budget changes and ensuring appropriate approvals are obtained.
- Build effective relationships with Project Managers, Finance, Procurement, Commercial teams, contractors and delivery partners while driving continuous improvement in project controls, reporting standards and adherence to PMO policies and frameworks.
You don’t need to check every box, however we’re looking for a good combination of:
- Tertiary qualifications in Finance, Commerce, Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management or equivalent industry experience.
- 5+ years' experience in project controls, cost control, commercial finance or project services on large-scale infrastructure, construction, utilities, energy or major capital projects.
- Strong forecasting capability, including EAC, cash flow, accruals, commitments, variance analysis and cost-to-complete assessment.
- Commercial acumen and ability to understand contract structures, milestone payments, claims, variations, purchase orders and contractor cost submissions.
- Working knowledge of capex/opex principles, asset capitalization, AUC, WBS structures and financial coding requirements for infrastructure projects.
- Strong SAP, Ariba, Excel and reporting capability; Power BI, Primavera P6, MS Project or other project controls tools are advantageous.
- Ability to simplify complex financial and commercial information into clear management for commentary and decision-ready advice.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills with confidence to challenge assumptions, escalate risks and influence corrective actions.
- Good understanding of project governance, Earned Value Modules (EVM), change control, procurement processes, audit requirements and delivery lifecycle controls from Project set up to Capitalization of Assets.
- Construction White Card and Australian Driver License, or ability to obtain, where site attendance is required.
