At AusNet, we play a key role in the energy transition and provide essential energy to Victorian households and businesses.
Help us lead the way, while enriching your career with real people who encourage you to bring your best and make real impact – for your career, our communities and Australia’s clean energy future.
About the role
The Process Improvement Specialist drives enterprise‑wide process excellence by facilitating stakeholder workshops, mapping processes from level 1 to 5, uncovering inefficiencies, and leading improvement initiatives that support safe, reliable, and efficient energy services. You will coach process owners and stewards to build capability and embed a culture of continuous improvement using Lean, Six Sigma, and Kaizen.
You will leverage business process management tools to model and mine processes, extract insights, and visualise real‑time flows to identify deviations, bottlenecks, and performance gaps, supporting workflow redesign, automation, and best‑practice implementation.
The role supports the enterprise process management framework by ensuring processes are mapped, well‑documented, version‑controlled, and accessible for training, audits, and ongoing improvement. By strengthening end‑to‑end processes and regulatory readiness, the Process Improvement Specialist helps embed operational excellence that drives performance, innovation, and resilience.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the enterprise process framework and tools by driving implementation, adoption, and continuous improvement, ensuring processes are mapped, documented, optimised, and aligned with enterprise standards and best practices.
- Facilitate cross‑functional workshops with frontline staff, SMEs, and leadership to map current‑state processes, identify pain points, co‑design future‑state improvements, and build process ownership across functions.
- Lead enterprise‑wide improvement initiatives across Gas Operations, Electricity Distribution, Transmission, Digital, Future Networks, Group Operations and Corporate Functions to improve safety, efficiency, reliability, compliance, and customer service.
- Conduct end‑to‑end diagnostics of operational and support processes to identify inefficiencies, waste, duplication, and bottlenecks using Lean, Six Sigma, and value stream mapping.
- Standardise and document critical processes in line with AusNet’s Integrated Management System (IMS), regulatory requirements, and operational risk frameworks.
- Partner with leaders and technical specialists to translate strategic objectives into operational workflows and continuous improvement initiatives that deliver measurable performance uplift.
- Collaborate with Data & Analytics and Digital Enablement to develop dashboards, KPIs, and real‑time visualisation tools that support decision‑making and process monitoring.
- Embed continuous improvement capability by coaching team leaders, field supervisors, and support staff in CI tools, root‑cause analysis, visual management, and standard work.
- Support transformation and change programs, including process re‑engineering for new systems, organisational shifts, and major capital project delivery.
- Ensure operational processes meet compliance obligations, including safety, environmental performance, regulator reporting (AER, ESV), and critical infrastructure risk management.
- Capture lessons learned from incidents, audits, and emergency management exercises and integrate them into sustainable improvements and training materials.
- Lead process maturity assessments across business units and contribute to the enterprise Operational Excellence maturity roadmap and reporting cadence.
- Drive cross‑business process harmonisation by identifying and resolving variation that impacts performance, regulatory alignment, or scalability across regulated networks and Future Networks developments.
