We have an opportunity for a Process Automation Lead to join our team. As the Process Automation Lead, you’ll lead a small team of Process Automation Specialists to map, simplify, re-engineer and automate how work is performed across AusNet. You’ll enforce the standards for process analysis and automation delivery, prioritise and allocate your team’s capacity against the highest value opportunities, and run a disciplined delivery cadence.

Combining deep process expertise with hands-on automation capability and people leadership, you’ll reduce manual effort, improve quality and create measurable business value using technologies such as Microsoft Power Automate and emerging AI-enabled automation and process management / mapping tools.

What you’ll be doing:

• Lead and develop a team of three Process Automation Specialists, building capability in process analysis, re-engineering and automation.
• Manage the automation pipeline, prioritising work based on value, risk, urgency and team capacity.
• Drive delivery through effective backlog management, planning, reviews and continuous improvement.
• Maintain process mapping, re-engineering and automation standards aligned to Enterprise Process Management frameworks.
• Act as the senior contact for process automation, reporting on priorities, performance and realised benefits.
• Partner with stakeholders to analyse current-state processes, identify pain points, waste and improvement opportunities.
• Facilitate workshops to uncover process issues and define automation opportunities.
• Establish a clear understanding of current-state processes, controls, data, dependencies and performance baselines.
• Document current and future-state processes using agreed modelling standards and frameworks.
• Simplify and redesign processes by removing waste, addressing root causes and avoiding automation of inefficient practices.
• Assess and prioritise automation opportunities based on value, feasibility, risk and return on investment.
• Translate business needs into clear requirements, acceptance criteria and solution designs.
• Oversee the design, build, testing, deployment and maintenance of workflow and robotic process automations.
• Ensure security, privacy, compliance, auditability and operational support requirements are embedded throughout the automation lifecycle.
• Lead testing, defect resolution, deployment, training and handover activities.
• Monitor automation performance, adoption and benefits, driving continuous improvement.
• Evaluate emerging AI and automation capabilities and apply them where safe, governed and appropriate.

You don’t need to check every box; however, we’re looking for a good combination of:

• Demonstrated people leadership experience, including leading, coaching and developing a small team of specialists and managing performance, development and workload.
• Proven ability to manage capacity allocation and demand across multiple concurrent initiatives and competing stakeholder priorities, with transparent trade-offs and realistic commitments.
• Deep, demonstrated expertise analysing, mapping and improving end-to-end business processes, including current and future-state design – familiarity with industry standard process frameworks and methodologies strongly regarded, with the ability to set standards and uplift others.
• Demonstrated experience in process optimisation, including but not limited to identifying process waste and process re-engineering for value outcomes.
• Demonstrated experience in process simulations (manual or automated)
• Hands-on experience designing, building, testing and supporting workflow or robotic process automations.
• Experience with Process mapping tools strongly regarded.
• Experience with automation tools. Microsoft Power Automate experience is desirable.
• Ability to elicit and translate business needs into clear requirements, acceptance criteria and practical automation designs.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capability, with a focus on removing root causes and delivering measurable outcomes.
• Ability to work directly with stakeholders at different levels, facilitate process discussions and communicate technical concepts in plain language.
• Understanding of automation lifecycle practices including development standards, testing, deployment, exception handling, monitoring, documentation and support.
• Awareness of AI-enabled automation, process mining, Copilot capabilities and responsible AI considerations is desirable.
• Awareness of cyber security, privacy, data governance, records management and regulatory obligations relevant to automation solutions.
• Relevant tertiary qualification in business, technology, engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• Experience in utilities, energy or another regulated and operationally complex environment is desirable.
• Strongly Regarded: Expertise or accreditation in BABOK, Lean, Kaizen, Six Sigma, APQC, Scrum Master or equivalent agile certification, and experience in process mapping and process mapping toolsets
