About the Role:

As a Distribution Network Controller you will be accountable for the delivery of safe and timely network switching and access to AusNet Services’ Electricity Distribution networks to support the delivery of approved works programs and the resolution of fault restoration activities, monitoring and troubleshooting planned and unplanned outages.

 

The role reports to the Shift Manager and is located in Melbourne’s CBD. We support flexible working practices, so we’re happy to discuss what this might look like for you.

 

This role will deliver real outcomes, including but not limited to:

  • Manage and perform controlled switching functions for planned and unplanned non interconnected and interconnected events without supervision for Distribution Network
  • Monitor and interpret operating conditions and permissible variations to manage network demand and quality of supply and troubleshoot abnormal events across region making adjustments to control deviations and keeping supply
  • Manage unplanned incidences according to procedures including protection target interpretation to ensure correct supply
  • Coordinate and manage safe access to the network (e.g. issuing access permits)
  • Communicate effectively with Control Room, Engineers and Field Staff on all switching activities, alarms and escalates appropriately
  • Respond to critical/emergency situations and environmental concerns and seeks appropriate support
  • Identify upstream and downstream impacts of decisions (e.g. supply failure, quality of supply issues)
  • Respond effectively to customer issues
  • Monitor and interpret non-routine operating conditions and permissible variations to manage network demand and quality of supply

 

You don’t need to check every box; however, we are looking for a good combination of:

  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of working within an electricity Distribution Network with previous demonstrated experience working as a Network Controller
  • You're adaptable to change and enjoy learning new systems as we modernise and develop leading technological solutions
  • Detailed knowledge of the Code of Practice on Electrical Safety in the VESI (The Blue/Green Book), Supplementary Instructions, Operating principles, procedures and practices
  • Sound knowledge of AC circuit theory as applied to power systems
  • Working knowledge of system protection schemes
  • Ability to make quality decisions under pressure
  • Superior attention to detail while undertaking multiple tasks in unison
  • Superior communication skills 
  • Proven application of operational technology solutions (i.e. SCADA, DMS/OMS)
  • Advanced Diploma of ESI – Power Systems or equivalent is advantageous
