As Lead Secondary Engineer – Protection, Control & Automation, you’ll be responsible for delivering expert engineering advice and leadership across a range of asset management activities. You’ll contribute to the development of engineering standards, maintenance policies, and strategic asset plans, while supporting the delivery of capital and operational works programs.
This role involves hands-on technical work, including device performance analysis, failure investigations, and scheme design, as well as strategic input into asset lifecycle planning. You’ll collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure compliance with regulatory and safety obligations, and help drive innovation in protection and control technologies.
With a Hybrid split (Southbank/WFH), this role is based in Southbank working within the Asset Management Team
This role will deliver real outcomes, including but not limited to:
- Providing specialist technical expertise associated with protection relays, field devices, control devices and auxiliary systems.
- Providing expert input asset management strategies and philosophies.
- Providing expert input to protection, control and automation device and scheme performance and technical specifications.
- Developing maintenance policies and practices.
- Provide engineering leadership to resolve complex engineering issues during project delivery.
- Assessing and reviewing the condition of installed protection, control and automation assets.
- Review/audit and maintenance of asset related databases.
- Investigating and analysing equipment failures or problems, drafting reports, creating remedial actions.
You don’t need to check every box; however, we are looking for a good combination of:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant Engineering field, with a strong commitment to safety outcomes and engineering judgement
- Proven ability to develop and implement strategic asset management plans aligned with organisational strategy, particularly in regulated environments
- Deep understanding of asset management frameworks, regulatory requirements, and Australian and international standards and codes of practice
- Expertise in distribution system components and technologies, with a focus on protection, control, automation devices, and emerging innovations
- Proficient in software tools for protection and control scheme design (e.g., DigSilent, relay software), and capable of administering device settings files
- Skilled in leading and coordinating failure and incident investigations, applying advanced reasoning and analytical skills to optimise asset performance
