As a Lead Field Engineer, Primary Plant, you will play a critical role in shaping the performance, reliability and future readiness of AusNet's Transmission network. You will utilise significant technical knowledge and experience to deliver sound technical advice for all AusNet’s electricity stations assets.
What you’ll be doing in this role:
- Be at the forefront of network reliability, providing critical emergency response support during network incidents and leading investigations into equipment failures, defects, and major events
- Drive significant business value by improving the performance, risk management, and lifecycle strategies of primary plant assets, with a key focus on Terminal Stations
- Lead complex engineering investigations, identifying root causes and delivering innovative, practical solutions to critical network challenges
- Provide leadership to liaise and collaborate with internal stakeholders on a range of engineering issues and programs to determine practical business solutions for primary plant field assets
- Provide input to, and work with others to perform:

- Condition and risk assessment of installed equipment
- Assist with the development of primary plant replace/refurbish/repair work scopes and initiate and assist with developing projects
- Technical guidance and advice for field work groups on primary plant and associated equipment
- Assist with business case development for strategic spares
- Provide specialist technical expertise to the procurement and delivery of primary plant assets
- Shape the future of the network, challenging conventional thinking, embracing new technologies, and driving smarter, more efficient ways of working
This role offers a unique opportunity to make a direct impact on network safety, reliability, and the future performance of critical energy infrastructure.
You don’t need to check every box; however, we are looking for a good combination of:
- Degree qualification in Electrical Engineering (or similar)
- Demonstrated experience in utility industry with depth and breadth of knowledge in all aspects of plant and equipment up to 500kV
- Demonstrated knowledge of a large range of primary plant operations
- Understand the principles of strategic asset management and knowledge of contemporary asset management systems preferred
- Demonstrated ability to develop relationships and lead initiatives to successfully delivery business outcomes
- Current driver's licence required (travel to sites and offices as required)
- Professional body membership: CP Eng (preferred), CIGRE if appropriate, Victoria Professional Engineers Registration
