We are seeking a technically skilled and strategic Lead Electrical & Communications Engineer to take ownership of the Electrical & Communications asset class within our Gas Business Unit. This is a pivotal role where you’ll use your engineering expertise and leadership to drive asset performance, safety, and reliability across the network, while balancing risk and cost with a long-term asset lifecycle view.
As the Lead Electrical & Communications Engineer, you will develop and own asset strategies, maintenance plans, and risk management frameworks that ensure safe, reliable, and cost-effective outcomes. You’ll provide expert guidance on asset design and compliance and influence investment decisions.
With a Hybrid split (Office/WFH), this role is based in South Bank and is part of the Network Management Team, with occasional travel to site within Victoria.
This role will deliver real outcomes, including but not limited to:
- Drive performance in Process Safety for Electrical & Communications Assets by providing personnel and process safety leadership, continuously setting expectations and exhibiting behaviours in line with AusNet Services values.
- Develop and own Asset Management and Maintenance strategies that balance and manage risk, asset performance and cost with an asset lifecycle view.
- Monitor Asset class performance and health on at least a quarterly basis through KPIs, data analysis and intel from the field.
- Identify Risks, Strengths and Weaknesses to Asset and Network Performance, stemming from external drivers in Industry.
- Manage a small team of Asset Performance Engineers in the day to day direction of tasks allocation and annual business initiatives. Raise resourcing constraints early for mitigation strategies.
- Drive Risk Assessments on key Asset risks identified. Maintain an Asset Class Operational Risk Register and asset defect register, detailing identified risks, actions, action owner and due dates for mitigation.
- Provide Asset Class technical advice and support to Emergency Response
- Lead failure investigations and root cause analysis failure to apply lessons learned for the future performance of the Asset.
- Hold a 1 year, 5 year and 10 year view to Asset Class Replacement programs and other Opex related work programs. Support the enterprise Capex, Opex and GAAR Planning cycles.
You don’t need to check every box; however, we are looking for a good combination of:
- Engineering Degree
- Significant demonstrated Asset Management experience with Electrical & Communications assets
- Familiarity with electrical safety and Australian/New Zealand codes and standards (AS/NZS 3000, AS/NZS 3008).
- Working knowledge of Industrial Electrical installations, Field Communications technologies, SCADA, RTUs, PLCs, and industrial control protocols.
- Effective communication of complex technical elements, advantages, disadvantages and trade offs, to a broad audience.
- Effective interpersonal, facilitating and influencing without authority experience.
- Undertakes independent problem solving and management of resolutions for assigned works, outside the department.
- Demonstration of Commercial acumen.
