The Head of Delivery plays a pivotal role in shaping and steering the overall delivery strategy for the Western Renewables Link (WRL) project. Providing enterprise‑level leadership across delivery, safety, and technical engineering, this role ensures all streams operate within a cohesive, risk‑aware, and performance‑driven framework that supports successful outcomes.
Accountable for integrating the work of multiple delivery streams, the Head of Delivery resolves cross‑functional challenges and drives alignment across the project. With a strong focus on safety and efficiency, the role is instrumental in ensuring the project is delivered effectively while building and sustaining strong strategic partnerships, both internally and externally.
What you’ll be doing in this role:
- Contribute to the development, implementation, and monitoring of project business plans to ensure delivery of strategic and operational priorities.
- Ensure directorate priorities and activities are aligned with broader project business plan, strategies, policies, and governance frameworks.
- Work proactively with other directorates to identify interdependencies, opportunities for continuous improvement, and support consistent delivery of project outcomes.
- Build strong relationships and promote systems thinking across directorates to support shared understanding, joint problem‑solving, and informed decision‑making.
- Identify and address cross‑directorate risks early, ensuring coordinated mitigation strategies and transparent communication
- Provide strategic direction to Directors across Delivery & Operations, Health & Safety, and Technical Engineering, ensuring their systems, processes, and plans are integrated and mutually reinforcing.
- Anticipate emerging risks and opportunities, shaping delivery strategies to maintain project resilience and performance.
- Establish and maintain delivery governance (stage gates, compliance to statutory approvals/EES conditions, assurance documentation, and performance reporting
- Drive continuous improvement, embedding learnings and value initiatives that benefit the project, landowners, customers, and AusNet
- Deliver to agreed outcomes (cost, schedule, safety, customer/community, commercial) across all phases, with integrated plans and KPIs
You don’t need to check every box; however we’re looking for a good combination of:
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant field (Engineering, Business/Commerce, Project Management)
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in Delivery and Construction roles within large-scale projects
- Extensive experience and or qualification in related field (construction, business, engineering, project management)
- Demonstrated ability to deliver complex engineering and construction portfolios / programs.
- Advanced level of demonstrated ability to manage the interface relationships between delivery partners, service providers and suppliers
- High level ability of decision making to ensure business, customer and project outcomes and expectations are met. .
- Broad understanding of business and commercial drivers and relationship with risk mitigation to support sound influencing and negotiation decisions
- Successfully demonstrates strategic leadership accountabilities with extensive experience in driving high performing multi-discipline teams and improving operational productivity in a complex environment
- Demonstrated experience influencing and communicating at an executive and board level (including successfully portray ideas, strategy and opportunities)
- Ability to develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders in relevant government departments and working groups
- Exceptional verbal and written communication and engagement skills, including at project executive and government level
- Excellent interpersonal skills that enable communications and work with all levels of internal stakeholders and external customers
