As the Head of Business Development - Load Connections at AusNet Services, you will lead the execution of our national business development and acquisition growth strategy, specifically focused on connections related to electrification and decarbonization of load customers. You will be responsible for identifying new markets and forming relationships with customers across the National Electricity Market (NEM) whilst driving all market and business development activities related to unregulated/contestable electricity transmission generation connection infrastructure. 

 

Business development activities will include identifying and developing a portfolio of external strategic and emerging customer project opportunities. 

 

The Head of Business Development- Load Connections will also assist the Head of Business Development- Renewable Generation, Network Development team and Renewable Energy Zone team with some Market and Network development activities by helping identify future electrical transmission infrastructure needs across the NEM. 

 

They will have the support from legal, commercial and the project development teams to push infrastructure opportunities through to construction and delivery. 

 

With a  Hybrid split Office / WFH , this role is based in Southbank and is part of the Connections Infrastructure, Development & Future Networks team. 

 

This role will deliver real outcomes, including but not limited to:

  • Work closely with the Head of Business Development – Renewable Generation in dealing with connections across the NEM and the technical requirements of these connections and apply the transferrable principles to the Load Connection Opportunities; 
  • Support the GM Connection Infrastructure in developing a clear strategy for growing the Connections Infrastructure portfolio through internally driven and external customer opportunities; 
  • Lead or facilitate a team of Bid, Development and Investment managers in the identification, development, and provision of tenders, offers and executed contracts, including internal investment approvals, that executes on the Connections Infrastructure growth strategy specific to load connection opportunities;  
  • Lead a team of market facing managers to support AusNet being a trusted transmission delivery partner for government and renewable project developers/generators; 
  • Provide deep energy market, commercial and financial expertise to transaction execution and relationship building specific to renewable and firming technologies; 
  • Support the Deal Execution and Commercial Management team in conjunction with Project Development, and the Corporate Finance and Legal teams (as required) in the development of business cases for investments for EGM, ELT and Board approvals specific to Load market connection opportunities; 
  • Develop an extensive network of senior business relationships for the development of energy infrastructure projects specific to Load market connection opportunities; 
  • Lead a team responsible for the development of the initial business case (including net benefit to consumers and wider Victorians) for Load connections and/or opportunities across the network including required coordination of developers to facilitate and support large scale transmission connections across multiple developers; 
  • Identify brownfield acquisition opportunities across the market in relation to electrical infrastructure and load connections. 

 

 
You don’t need to check every box; however, we are looking for a good combination of:

  • Solid and proven experience in a business development and/or commercial role within the Energy sector, or equivalent  
  • Tertiary level qualification in legal, commerce or associated discipline OR equivalent knowledge and/or experience in Utilities / Energy 
  • Proven ability to manage teams (including virtual/remote and/or external consultants) in the development of opportunities, including tendering and contracting with a focus on value generation 
  • Strong financial acumen and understanding of renewable industry financing  
  • Ability to engage at CEO level with superior written and verbal communication 
  • Experience in market networking and customer management specific to the Energy Sector 
  • Ability to create new connections across the market
