We have an opportunity for an HSE Risk & Investigation Program Lead to be the technical expert in HSE risk assessment methodologies, critical control frameworks, and incident investigation, building organizational capability to identify, assess, and control high-consequence risks.

 

What you’ll help deliver

  • Lead implementation of AusNets refreshed Critical Risk Program. This will involve working with the lines of business, delivery partners, HSE managers and other key enablers over an 18month period to fully embed the framework and ensue its embedded in our ways of working.
  • Develop and maintain risk assessment methodologies to meet regulatory requirements e.g. AFAP, SFAIRP, bowties, and risk workshops.  Develop tailored activity-based risk assessment tools (e.g. JSA) and supporting the lines of business with consistent application & align & finalise the HSE Critical Risk Program for Ausnet, collaborating across all business lines
  • Coordinate HSE risk registers ensuring operational risks are systematically identified, assessed, and monitored across lines of business lines
  • Facilitate regular risk reviews with operational leaders translating risk information into actionable insights and priorities
  • Collaborate with the lines of business to design and implement comprehensive first and second line of defence (LOD) assurance programs that verify the effectiveness of critical controls for material risks. Partner with HSE & Enterprise Risk team.
  • Coach & facilitate investigations with a focus on identifying critical control failures and systemic risk factors, ensuring structured root cause analysis and rigorous evidence-based findings
  • Owns the Investigation Process including templates, coaching for investigators, ensuring appropriate training for investigators, completes quality review of investigations, tracks corrective actions and verifies effectiveness through follow up reviews.
  • Drive learning and governance by presenting insights on critical risk and control failures to leadership, ensuring corrective actions address systemic issues and strengthen critical controls across the organization
  • Monitor internal and external sources for emerging risks including incident trends, near-miss patterns, regulatory changes, and industry incidents
  • Develop a process to identify and track emerging risk through to resolution or integration into enterprise risk registers
  • Partner with Training Manager to ensure appropriate identification of roles and onboarding for those who own critical risks and control barriers.

 

You don’t need to check every box, however we’re looking for a good combination of:

 

  • Tertiary qualifications in HSE, Risk Management, or Safety Engineering
  • Proven experience implementing critical control frameworks and leading significant incident investigations.
  • Deep knowledge of risk assessment methodologies (bowtie, AFAP/ALARP demonstration, JSA, quantitative analysis).
  • Strong understanding of incident investigation techniques (ICAM, 5-Why) and systemic risk factors
  • Familiarity with high-consequence risks in utilities, energy, or heavy industry; knowledge of Australian energy safety regulations would be beneficial
  • Advanced analytical and facilitation skills; ability to synthesize complex data and lead workshops/interviews
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and influencing skills
  • Experience in training, coaching, and mentoring to build investigation and risk management capability
