About the role
The Group Manager, Operations Management is responsible for driving operational maturity, capability uplift, and best practice across the organisation. This role leads the development and deployment of enterprise-wide operations strategies, standards, frameworks, systems, and tools across four key domains: Operations Strategy, Operations Excellence, Project Portfolio Excellence, Asset Management Excellence. Operating as a central enabler, the role partners closely with Lines of Business to identify synergies, uplift capability, and embed consistent, scalable practices that support efficient and effective delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development and refinement of enterprise-wide operations strategies that align with business strategies, objectives, regulatory requirements, and industry best practice.
- Oversee and integrate the functions of Operations Strategy, Operations Excellence, Project Portfolio Excellence, Asset Management Excellence.
- Drive enterprise-wide capability uplift by developing and deploying training, coaching, and support programs.
- Act as a strategic partner to Lines of Business, enabling efficient and effective delivery.
- Design, implement, and continuously improve enterprise frameworks, systems, and tools.
- Establish and maintain performance metrics and reporting mechanisms.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives informed by data and insights.
- Build strong relationships with senior leaders and influence enterprise decision-making.
- People-management responsibilities including goal setting, performance reviews, recruitment, onboarding, and team development.
What You’ll Bring
You will bring a deep understanding of operations strategy, asset management, maintenance, and project/portfolio management in asset-intensive or regulated industries. This includes strong knowledge of enterprise frameworks, standards, and systems that support operational excellence and continuous improvement. You will also have familiarity with capital investment governance, lifecycle asset management, and performance monitoring methodologies, as well as an understanding of maturity models, benchmarking practices, and capability development frameworks. In addition, knowledge of change management, stakeholder engagement, and organisational transformation principles is essential.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Business, Operations Management, Asset Management, or a related discipline.
- Postgraduate qualifications in Business Administration (MBA), Engineering Management, or Operational Excellence are highly desirable.
- Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status and registration as Professional Engineer (or eligible in Victoria).
- Member of Engineers Australia (Fellow or eligible).
Professional Certifications:
- Lean Six Sigma certification (e.g. Black Belt or equivalent) to support continuous improvement and operational excellence.
- Project Management certification (e.g. PMP®, PRINCE2®, or equivalent) to support oversight of project and portfolio excellence.
- Asset Management certification (e.g. IAM Certificate or Diploma, or equivalent) is advantageous.
- Change Management certification (e.g. Prosci® or equivalent) is desirable for leading capability uplift and transformation initiatives.
