About the Role

This key role will provide strategic oversight, governance, and leadership to ensure compliance with regulations, while continuously improving performance and risk management frameworks across the organisation.

 

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Develop and implement AusNet’s HSEQ and compliance strategy, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives and industry best practices.
  • Champion a proactive HSEQ culture, engaging leadership teams, employees, and contractors to drive performance and accountability.
  • Act as a catalyst for change, influencing leaders and employees to adopt and sustain HSEQ improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, environmental, and quality regulations, liaising with regulatory bodies as required.
  • Drive the utilization of technology and data to improve safety practices and risk management.
  • Oversee the identification, assessment, and mitigation of risks across operations, incorporating the Unmitigated Risk Management (URM) methodology to ensure proactive hazard control.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain robust compliance frameworks to ensure adherence to internal policies, industry regulations, and legal requirements.
  • Establish and maintain HSEQ performance metrics, conducting regular audits and reviews to drive continuous improvement.
  • Lead / Coach the business to lead investigations into significant HSEQ incidents, ensuring root causes are identified and corrective actions are implemented.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including government agencies, industry groups, and regulatory bodies, to enhance HSEQ outcomes.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of HSEQ training programs to ensure employees and contractors are equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills.
  • Lead initiatives to enhance the HSEQ capability within the team, ensuring they have the necessary skills and expertise to drive improvements.
  • Foster and embed a strong Safety leadership culture throughout the organisation, ensuring it is a core value in all operations and decision-making processes. Provide leadership for delivery partner contracts and strategic partnerships, ensuring service, safety, and standards are met while achieving cost savings and fostering long-term, effective relationships.

 

 

About You:

You don’t need to check every box; however, we are looking for a good combination of:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Extensive experience in a senior HSEQ or a senior operational leadership role within the energy sector or a high-risk industry.
  • Proven track record of developing and embedding a strong HSEQ culture within a large and complex organization.
  • Experience in risk management, incident investigation, and performance measurement, with expertise in URM methodology preferred.
  • Experience in compliance management, including regulatory reporting and governance frameworks.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills with a demonstrated ability to influence change.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to influence and drive change.
