About the role
The Join AusNet’s Development & Future Networks (DF&N) team in a role that places you at the heart of one of Victoria’s most significant infrastructure projects, the Western Renewables Link (WRL). As our lead AusNet GIS resource on WRL, you’ll drive integration and data exchange between AusNet, our GIS service provider, internal teams, and build partners, leveraging your advanced GIS development skills to deliver seamless solutions.
This is more than a project role, it’s an opportunity to shape the future of energy. When WRL concludes, you’ll transition back into AusNet’s dynamic DF&N GIS team, contributing to multiple cutting-edge projects in an exciting and evolving domain. You’ll also provide backup support to the DF&N GIS Manager when required.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead GIS delivery for WRL, ensuring seamless implementation and integration across project teams.
- Design, manage, and administer geospatial datasets aligned with project requirements.
- Perform advanced spatial and statistical analyses to support asset management, environmental monitoring, and infrastructure planning.
- Drive spatial data migration and integration for WRL.
- Oversee system integration between ArcGIS and enterprise platforms (e.g., asset management, CRM, ERP, BI tools) and manage migration from ArcGIS Online to ArcGIS Enterprise.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders and government agencies.
- Ensure quality control of spatial data and GIS outputs.
- Coordinate spatial analysis projects to deliver insights that improve decision-making.
- Partner with WRL digital solution owners to develop GIS integrations that enhance information management.
- Contribute to the GIS Management Plan and monitor strategy execution.
- Automate workflows using Python (ArcPy), ModelBuilder, or ArcGIS API for Python.
- Deliver training and technical support to GIS users.
- Lead the handover of GIS deliverables at project completion.
- Provide support to the DF&N GIS team as needed.

Qualifications & Certifications
- Tertiary degree in spatial science, surveying, information management, systems, engineering, or other relevant discipline
Skills & Experience
- 5 – 7 years’ experience as a GIS analyst (or similar), preferably on complex large-scale infrastructure projects
- High level of proficiency in ESRI and associated suite of products (including but not limited to ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online)
- Experience in the Construction, Energy or Utilities sector preferred
- Experience providing troubleshooting support for GIS software
- Demonstrated experience in managing / implementing GIS solutions on large multi-disciplinary engineering projects.
- Demonstrated experience in the following solutions: FME, Python, Global Mapper, AutoCAD, and MicroStation.
- Proven experience in managing spatial data migration and integration.
- Working knowledge of ISO19650, SOCI and other relevant DE specific standards
- Strong verbal, written communication and negotiation skills
- Exceptional time and project management skills
- Strong interpersonal skills to manage and engage with stakeholders at varying levels of seniority, gaining cooperation and influencing decisions particularly as they relate to and interact with GIS data
