We have an opportunity for a Environmental Compliance Specialist to join our team.

As the Environmental Compliance Specialist, you will play a key role in supporting the planning and delivery of WRL, driving excellent environmental performance across construction and operational activities along the corridor. You will develop and implement strategies to satisfy environmental performance requirements, while supporting the delivery team and contractors to achieve regulatory compliance and drive best practice.

What You’ll be doing:

• Provide expert technical advice on assessing and mitigating environmental impacts, contributing to the development of planning and environmental management strategies, documents, and procedures.
• Review proposed design changes and provide advice about survey requirements, potential environmental impacts and approval risk
• Attend meetings with the Independent Environmental Auditor
• Undertake inspections and audits of contractors
• Develop strategies required by Environmental Performance Requirements and manage their implementation
• Provide expert environmental advice to construction contractors and AusNet’s WRL project team
• Support the development of strategies designed to avoid and minimise impacts with a focus on biodiversity impact reduction
• Review ecological reports and support the offset strategy by coordinating surveys and other due diligence assessments
• Prepare and review environmental content in presentations for regulators, Councils and other stakeholders 
• Review contractors’ presentations and reports
• Prepare environmental reports and plans for the leadership team and client
• Develop and deliver presentations to other project teams and construction contractors.
• Assess gaps in environmental processes, proposing adjustments to improve efficiencies and better outcomes.
• Provide expert technical advice on assessing and mitigating environmental impacts, shaping environmental management strategies, documents, and procedures.
• Review and provide expert advice to the communications team on fact-sheets prepared on technical matters assessed in the Environment Effects Statement, coordinating comments from experts as required.
• Contribute to a Recordable Injury Frequency Rate targets and missionZero health & safety conversation targets.

You don’t need to check every box; however, we’re looking for a good combination of:

• Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science or other relevant degree
• 5 + years’ experience in successfully undertaking environmental advisor roles, preferably working on large infrastructure projects subject to the EES process
• Audit experience desirable
• Ecological qualifications and or excellent knowledge including relevant State and Commonwealth legislation highly desirable
• Demonstrated experience of major projects in Victoria (preferably linear projects)
• Experience in construction phase of projects
• Exceptional time management and project planning / management skills
• Excellent knowledge of statutory planning, environmental, cultural, and general government approvals processes experience in construction and delivery advantageous
• A team player who works well within constraints of a highly critical and public facing project; knows when to reach out for support and how to progress
• Resilience and flexibility to prioritise tasks in accordance with changing project priorities and climate
