About the role
We have an opportunity for a Environmental Compliance Lead to join our team. This role will drive excellent environmental performance across construction and operational activities along the WRL corridor, playing a key role in supporting the planning and delivery of the WRL project.
You will manage the Independent Environmental Auditor, overseeing reviews of construction documentation and field inspections and audits to verify compliance with Environmental Performance Requirements and conditions of approval. You will provide expert technical review of environmental documentation, prepare systems and processes to track and manage environmental compliance, and support contractors with the preparation of documentation required for environmental approvals.
Your leadership will be crucial in supporting the delivery team and contractors to achieve regulatory compliance and drive best practice environmental outcomes.
About the team
The Development and Future Networks team leads strategic growth in energy, building customer, community and stakeholder support to deliver greenfield transmission, generation and load connections, storage infrastructure, aggregated DER and clean mobility solutions.
The Western Renewables Link Project (WRL) is the largest transmission build of its kind in more than three decades and a critical piece of infrastructure, delivering energy from wind and solar farms in western Victoria to homes across the state and the National Electricity Market.
What you’ll be doing in this role:
- Develop and deliver environmental compliance strategies, including risk identification and mitigation for construction activities.
- Provide expert technical advice on assessing and mitigating environmental impacts, shaping planning and environmental management strategies, documents and procedures.
- Lead management and monitoring of compliance with ISO 14001, environmental approvals and management plans for AusNet.
- Coordinate, manage and report on environmental activities and issues, including legislative and regulatory compliance.
- Support the Independent Environmental Auditor through field audits, inspections, draft report reviews and verification of corrective actions.
- Collaborate with project delivery teams and consultants to develop environmental risk assessments, management plans, strategies, policies and procedures.
- Deliver briefings to management and leadership teams, drive continuous improvement in environmental management practices, and contribute to Recordable Injury Frequency Rate and mission Zero health and safety conversation targets.
You don’t need to check every box, however we’re looking for a good combination of:
- Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Management, Environmental Science /Engineering or other relevant degree
- 7-10 years’ experience in successfully undertaking environmental management and audit activities, preferably working on large infrastructure projects
- Demonstrated experience in construction and delivery of major projects in Victoria.
- Experience in IS014001 and audit activities (preferably on a project that has required and EES and Independent Environmental Auditor)
- Experience reviewing and preparing audit plans
- Exceptional time management and project planning / management skills
- Working knowledge of statutory planning, environmental, cultural, and general government approvals processes and experience in construction and delivery
- An autonomous team player who required minimal supervision but works well within constraints of a highly critical and public facing project; knows when to reach out for support and how to progress
- Resilience and flexibility to prioritise tasks in accordance with changing project priorities and climate
- Experience in Sustainability is desirable
