The Group Operations team provide outstanding strategic-level technical and operational capabilities, procurement & supply chain delivery whilst ensuring cross-business coordination and collaboration.
Reporting to the Data Governance Manager, the Enterprise Master Data Lead is responsible for maintaining the integrity, quality, consistency and governance of critical master data across key business systems including SAP, GIS, NMS and CRM. With a focus on asset, customer and operational data, you will ensure trusted data foundations that support business performance, regulatory compliance, operational decision-making and advanced analytics.
Working closely with business stakeholders, Digital, Data Product and Analytics teams, you will lead data quality initiatives, develop and embed master data governance frameworks, resolve systemic data issues, and champion best-practice data lifecycle management. This is an excellent opportunity for a data-driven professional with deep SAP master data expertise who is passionate about improving data quality, influencing enterprise-wide processes and delivering lasting business value.
What you’ll be doing in this role:
- Ensure the accuracy, consistency, and completeness of SAP and other key systems master data across domains including asset, equipment, vendor, and material records.
- Define and implement data quality standards, rules, validation logic, and exception handling routines to improve data trustworthiness and reduce manual rework.
- Lead root cause analysis and remediation of master data issues in collaboration with IT, business units, data product and Digital teams.
- Support the rollout and optimisation of data governance tools and frameworks, including metadata catalogues, data quality dashboards, and stewardship workflows.
- Act as the enterprise subject matter expert (SME) for SAP master data structure, processes, and integration with other enterprise systems (e.g. GIS, NMS, CRM, finance, field operations).
- Develop, maintain and communicate master data documentation, business rules, and data dictionaries to support operational consistency and audit readiness.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to uplift master data quality and governance maturity, aligned to AusNet’s data strategy.
- Contribute to key enterprise programs and system upgrades by advising on master data requirements, data migration, and test validation.
- Monitor and report on master data health using KPIs and dashboards to support regulatory reporting, performance metrics, and risk reduction.
- Build data capability by mentoring data stewards and end users on best practices for data creation, maintenance, and ownership
You don’t need to check every box, however we’re looking for a good combination of:
- Tertiary qualification in Information Systems, Computer Science, Business, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Certification or formal training in SAP Master Data Management (e.g. SAP S/4HANA, SAP MDG) – highly desirable.
- Additional certifications in Data Management or Data Quality (e.g. DAMA CDMP, Six Sigma for data quality) – advantageous
- 5+ years' experience managing SAP master data across complex enterprise environments, with expertise spanning asset, material, vendor, equipment and customer data domains.
- Strong data governance and data quality background, including leading data cleansing, validation, remediation and continuous improvement initiatives to improve data integrity and business outcomes.
- Proven SAP project experience, supporting system implementations, upgrades, integrations and master data migration activities across multiple business systems.
- Deep understanding of master data governance frameworks and compliance requirements, ideally gained within utilities, energy, infrastructure or other highly regulated industries.
- Advanced SAP master data management capability, including SAP MDG, LSMW, data maintenance processes, quality monitoring tools, reporting and data lifecycle management.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and collaboration skills, with the ability to work across IT, operations, asset management, analytics and business teams to embed best-practice master data standards.
- strong analytical, communication and problem-solving abilities, with a proactive approach to identifying root causes, influencing data accountability, driving governance uplift and translating complex data concepts into practical business solutions.
