Lead a high impact Engineering Team at the forefront of Engineering and Design for the DFN Infrastructure portfolio. This pivotal team plays a key role in shaping engineering and design solutions, design standards, design quality, technical risk mitigation and provides subject matter expertise on all DFN infrastructure projects and programs.

 

As Engineering Manager, you will provide technical leadership across the full project lifecycle—from development and deal execution to delivery and ongoing operations. Leveraging your deep technical expertise, you will uplift engineering capability and deliver sound technical and commercial advice to support projects that optimise returns, maintain network performance, and ensure the long-term sustainability of DFN’s assets

 

This role will primarily be based in Southbank and is part of the Infrastructure Operations & Delivery team.

 

This role will deliver real outcomes.  Key accountabilities require, but are not limited to, the following:

 

  • Develop, drive and embed strategic direction for the Engineering function that aligns with DFN growth ambitions and priorities
  • Lead and manage the engineering team to service the network and connection infrastructure projects within DFN to meet expectations with regards to timely, quality and commercially balanced deliverables 
  • Provide technical, commercial and strategic advice and support to DFN network and connection infrastructure projects
  • Act as a point of escalation for technical subject matter experts within the Engineering team, providing mentoring, advice, technical support and guidance
  • Lead, coach and mentor other personnel within the team sharing knowledge and experience to achieve team and business unit objectives; embed a culture where capability uplift is prioritised and where knowledge share and cross-collaboration is second nature within the team
  • Review and assess technical risks associated with DFN network and connection infrastructure projects and ensure they are managed through design or commercial means
  • Lead professional engineers in the development of high-level designs, project scopes, business cases and other project activities
  • Be the primary owner of technical relationships within AusNet and technical / engineering service providers
  • Represent AusNet in technical related meetings with customers, contractors, suppliers, and regulatory bodies
  • Review and validate the technical viability of project designs and specifications
  • Management of budget, resources and forecast within guidelines to ensure targets are met
  • Lead people-management activities including performance management, talent planning, recruitment and learning and development opportunities etc

 

You don’t need to check every box; however, we are looking for a good combination of:

 

  • Tertiary qualification in Engineering, Science, Construction or equivalent and registration with National Engineering Register (Engineers Australia).
  • Extensive hands-on experience (10+ years) leading engineering teams.
  • Diploma or other formal Project Management training in engineering, building, or construction would be advantageous.
  • Ability to lead, manage, and develop a high-performing engineering team including monitoring and management of resource utilisation.
  • Experience and successful track-record in managing complex multi-disciplinary EPC projects. 
  • Procurement, contracting, and performance management of external engineering and design consultants.
  • Demonstrated success in delivering outstanding customer service and developing positive customer relationships and strong stakeholder management skills.
  • Operates with analytical mindset with strength in safety, environment and quality risk management.
  • Financial and commercial acumen; effective management of costs and budgets, and understanding and compliance with contractual terms, legal requirements, industrial relations and legislative requirements.
  • Advanced project management and organizational skills; effectively managing multidisciplinary projects and project teams.
