About the Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Engineer, Grid Connections. This role will see you delivering successful connection of all major generation >1.5MW and major load connections to AusNet’s regulated electricity distribution network.
This hybrid role (Office/WFH) is based in Southbank, Melbourne, and sits within our Distribution line of business.
This role will deliver real outcomes, including, but not limited to:
- Undertake network analysis in SINCAL, PSCAD, PSSE to ensure compliance with Chapter 5 and Chapter 5A of the National Electricity Rules
- Assist in negotiating and preparing Generation Performance standards and supporting reports
- Assist in investigating network security, capacity, reliability and quality of supply issues related to the generator connection to the distribution network
- Liaise with relevant internal and external stakeholders and coordinate development of solutions for major connections to electricity distribution network
- Assist in development of strategies (technical, process, system, capability) that enable the successful negotiation of new connection opportunities
- Manage the energy connections process for discrete connections in accordance with the NER and internal processes, backed by a working familiarity of the energy regulatory landscape
- Influence end-to-end grid connection process, generator performance standard, R0, R1 and R2 processes
- Maintain effective relationship with customers and key stakeholders, including AEMO and participation in industry advocacy forums with other NEM participants
You don’t need to check every box; however, we are looking for a good combination of:
- Degree in electrical or power system engineering or equivalent
- Competency in Computer aided simulation using PSCAD, PSSE and SINCAL
- Understanding of Chapter 5 and Chapter 5A of the National Electricity Rules and its application to network design, customer and generator performance standard
- Exposure to contemporary electricity network planning and asset management practices
- Exposure to economic assessment of network constraints and risks
- Exposure to power quality, system strength, power system stability and control
- Exposure to distribution line design, communication, protection and control systems
