Communications Officer

We bring the energy – through purpose and people -

We’re all about building an energy future to be proud of. Sound like a challenge you’ve been looking for?

Your new role

When you join our team as a Communications Officer, you will play a key support role in delivering high‑quality, consistent and engaging communications for the Western Renewables Link project. You’ll assist with the coordination and delivery of communication activities across a range of channels, including stakeholder correspondence, project collateral, media and digital content.

You’ll also contribute to the development of communication tools and materials that help clearly explain the project and why it is needed to stakeholders and the broader community. This is an ideal opportunity for a motivated communicator who is ready to take on more responsibility and grow their impact within a high‑profile infrastructure environment.

Your new team

The Development and Future Networks team leads strategic growth in energy, building customer, community and stakeholder support to deliver greenfield transmission, generation and load connections, storage infrastructure, aggregated DER and clean mobility solutions.

The Western Renewables Link Project (WRL) is the largest transmission build of its kind in more than three decades and a critical piece of infrastructure, delivering energy from wind and solar farms in western Victoria to homes across the state and the National Electricity Market.

What you’ll be doing in this role:

  • Coordinate and support the delivery of communication activities that contribute to the successful implementation of the project’s communication strategy.
  • Develop and produce project collateral, including fact sheets, briefing notes, presentations and web content.
  • Draft and edit stakeholder correspondence and internal communications, ensuring clarity, tone and alignment with project messaging.
  • Support the Media and Communications Strategy Lead and specialists in managing planned and reactive media issues, including development of media responses, media monitoring and reporting.
  • Maintain and contribute to communication tools such as the project website, e‑updates and briefing documents.
  • Coordinate content development and approvals, ensuring the timely delivery of high‑quality materials.
  • Work closely with internal teams including land, field access, planning and technical delivery to ensure communications are informed and accurate.
  • Collaborate with AusNet’s corporate communications, marketing and customer engagement teams to ensure alignment and consistency.
  • Identify opportunities to improve communication processes and support the implementation of best practices.

You don’t need to check every box; however, we’re looking for a good combination of:

  • Tertiary qualifications in communications, journalism, media, or a related discipline
  • 5+ years’ experience in communications or media support
  • Strong writing, editing and document formatting skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and basic design tools (e.g. Canva, Adobe Acrobat)
  • Able to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
  • High attention to detail with strong organisational skills
  • Collaborative, proactive and open to learning

The AusNet experience is all about…

  • Growing your impact: We’ll support you to build your career through real opportunities and strong connections.
  • Solving some of the most complex energy challenges of our time: We love unpacking complex challenges in clever ways and looking at things differently.
  • Being apart a team that cares deeply about each other: We share in the good times. We support in the tough times. And we’re humble through and through.
