An excellent opportunity has become available for an experienced Category Manager.

 

As Category Manager, Networks, your primary purpose is to maximise value from strategic suppliers and high value spend through market intelligence, insights and effective implementation of best-in-class category management processes and practices.  This involves delivering new sources of value beyond cost (e.g. innovation, time to market, risk management) to drive ongoing category satisfaction within business unit and proactively influencing critical business decisions related to external expenditures.

 

You will take ownership of our Networks category which would include developing and implementing category plans. You will use diverse sourcing strategies to procure materials/equipment such as circuit breakers, poles, transformers etc from our vendors for our Major Projects and Asset Management teams.

 

Your measure of success will be based on the percentage of total spend influenced, category savings vs target and budget, year-on-year % increase in contract compliance, and number of supply market assessments.

 

This is a critical role managing the Design and Construction vendor panel to successfully deliver projects for our Network Operations business.

 

We support flexible working arrangements, with a Hybrid split (Office//WFH), this role is based in Southbank working within the Procurement Partnering, Networks team.

 

This role will deliver real outcomes, including but not limited to:

  • Develop a comprehensive category strategy in consultation with the business including category profile, category risk plan and category opportunity assessment and align with internal customers
  • Coordinate the evaluation and negotiation process, incorporating technical, commercial and operating model outcomes
  • Drive ideation, innovation and development of R&D across design teams and suppliers, facilitate category synergies and cross-BU improvements, help translate agreed initiatives and improvements into the contract and measure and track outcomes.
  • Ensure compliance of category strategies and their execution with the procurement policy, processes and procedures in place
  • Influence business to improve buying channel compliance across relevant spend, driving corrective action as necessary

 

You don’t need to check every box; however, we are looking for a good combination of:

  • Strong procurement experience, ideally gained within utilities, construction &/or infrastructure industries highly advantageous
  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree qualification
  • Professional qualification / certification from related professional body (e.g. Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply (CIPS)) is an advantage
  • Current knowledge and experience with project management and problem solving is an advantage
  • Current knowledge and experience with contractual law and regulations is mandatory
  • Competency with Ariba is an advantage
  • You’re analytical, adaptive, collaborative and commercially minded
