About the Role

As Associate Counsel, you will be responsible for working closely with AusNet stakeholders, providing legal advice and support on all areas of employment and industrial relations law.  You will be part of a high performing legal and company secretarial team, collaborating and integrating with your peers in other areas of the Legal team and your key clients and stakeholders across the organisation and externally.  

 

This role will report to the Deputy General Counsel – Operations & Regulation and is located at Southbank, Victoria.

What you will deliver

  • Partner with the business on legal requirements, solutions, opportunities or protections required to achieve core objectives and seamless delivery of legal services as part of a broader legal team
  • Be a trusted counsel advisor to key employment stakeholders and reduce reliance on external providers
  • Provide legal advice, negotiate contracts and transactions, resolve claims and advise the business on obligations under the Fair Work Act, relevant Enterprise Agreements and other ad hoc employment matters, including managing workplace investigations or complaints
  • Review, interpret and provide advice on changes to relevant legislation in the employment space
  • Brief external legal advisors (as required) and manage engagement and costs

 

What we like about you             

  • Tertiary level qualification in law (e.g. Bachelor of Laws)
  • Demonstrated industry experience (6 – 9 years PQE) in the legal industry, either in-house or in private practice, with a particular focus on employment and industrial law
  • Willingness to stretch and do work outside your specialisation is essential
  • Adaptable to change and able to work at a fast pace
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Professional and approachable demeanour when dealing with teammates and counterparties
  • Highly developed interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills
  • High level of self-motivation, accountability, and autonomy
  • Collaborative by nature, able to work with cross-functional teams
  • Strong commercial and business acumen
  • Licence requirements: Admitted to practice as a legal practitioner in Australia
