Asset Strategy & Insights Specialist
We bring the energy – through purpose and people
Not just through the infrastructure we operate, but through the way we show up for each other, our customers’ and our communities. The future of energy is in our hands. Let’s shape it together.
Are you excited to solve some of the most complex energy challenges of our time?
We have an opportunity for an Asset Strategy & Insights Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will transform asset condition, performance, maintenance and operational data into actionable intelligence that informs asset class strategies and investment decisions across AusNet’s commercial Transmission portfolio.
You will deliver advanced analytics, predictive investment and deterioration modelling, and executive‑grade visual insights to optimise lifecycle cost, risk and performance outcomes. The role strengthens asset intelligence through improving data quality, supporting failure investigations, and contributing to business case development and project initiation, ensuring insights are translated into practical, value‑driven asset management decisions.
What you’ll be doing in this role:
- Analyse asset condition, performance, O&M delivery and defect data to identify trends, risks and emerging issues, supporting failure investigations and translating lessons learned into improved asset strategies and maintenance practices through clear, evidence‑based insights.
- Develop and apply predictive investment, deterioration and performance models, delivering scenario analysis and long‑term forecasts that inform asset class strategies, asset replacement programs, OPEX work planning and prioritisation across 1‑year, 5‑year and full contract life horizons.
- Strengthen asset intelligence by uplifting data quality across asset registers, inspection, maintenance and operational systems, implementing data governance practices, and working closely with data, engineering and operations teams to resolve data gaps and inconsistencies.
- Deliver high‑quality reporting and executive‑grade visual insights, including Power BI dashboards and regulatory submissions, translating complex technical analysis into intuitive, decision‑ready outputs for senior stakeholders and external audiences.
- Initiate and support capital replacement projects through the development of robust, evidence‑based business cases, ensuring investment recommendations align with asset management objectives and support effective project sponsorship and delivery.
- Communicate technical trade‑offs, risks and insights effectively across engineering, operations, finance and leadership groups, influencing decision‑making and contributing to continuous improvement in asset management practices.
You don’t need to check every box, however we’re looking for a good combination of:
- Degree in Engineering (Electrical preferred), Data Science, Analytics, Asset Management, or other relevant discipline
- Post graduate qualification in Asset Management, Data Analytics, or Reliability Engineering (desirable)
- Professional certifications such as IAM Certificate/Diploma, CMRP, CRE or project management credentials (desirable)
- Strong analytical capability across asset performance, O&M, condition and defect data, with experience interpreting complex infrastructure datasets to identify risks, trends and actionable insights, including predictive, investment and lifecycle modelling with cost–risk–performance trade‑off evaluation.
- Advanced data visualisation, reporting and asset information management experience, including Power BI and the integration of data across asset, inspection, maintenance and operational systems (e.g. SAP/Maximo, GIS), with the ability to translate complex technical analysis into clear, decision‑ready insights for senior stakeholders.
- Sound asset management knowledge, including lifecycle planning, asset strategies, deterioration behaviour and maintenance strategy development, with familiarity in regulatory, assurance and compliance frameworks relevant to energy networks or large public infrastructure.
- Strong stakeholder engagement, communication and influencing skills, able to work effectively across engineering, operations, maintenance, finance and leadership groups, supporting business case development and influencing outcomes through evidence‑based insight rather than authority.
- Demonstrated ability to operate as a senior technical specialist, leading or contributing to asset management improvement initiatives, independently managing priorities while aligning work to broader asset strategy objectives.
- Highly developed interpersonal capability, including relationship building, facilitation, constructive challenge and systems thinking, with a proactive, curious mindset and the ability to navigate ambiguity to support balanced, value‑driven decisions.
