  • Gas is an essential service in Victoria, and it will be for decades to come. Our priority is to continue safe and reliable gas supply to our gas distribution customers in Western Victoria.

This role is all about making sure our gas assets perform safely, reliably, and efficiently today and into the future.

 

As the Asset Performance Engineer, you’ll be responsible for developing and maintaining strategies that guide how we manage our gas network assets across their lifecycle. In this role you will have broad exposure to all Asset Classes, including our Transmission Pipelines, Distribution Pipelines, Meters, Regulators and Electrical/Comms Assets.

 

You’ll work closely with the Asset Class Leads, data, field teams, and other stakeholders to monitor asset health, identify risks, and recommend improvements. Your insights will help shape maintenance plans, capital investment decisions, and long-term asset replacement programs.


With a Hybrid split (Office/WFH), this role is based in South Bank and is part of the Network Management Team, with occasional travel to site within Victoria.

This role will deliver real outcomes, including but not limited to:   

  • Contribute to Process Safety across our Gas Network Assets by providing personnel and process safety leadership, continuously setting expectations and exhibiting behaviours in line with AusNet Services values.
  • Support the development of Asset Management and Maintenance strategies that balance and manage risk, asset performance and cost with an asset lifecycle view.
  • Monitor Asset class performance and health on at least a quarterly basis through KPIs, data analysis and intel from the field.
  • Identify Risks, Strengths and Weaknesses to Asset and Network Performance, stemming from external drivers in Industry.
  • Contribute to Risk Assessments on key Asset risks identified. Maintain an Asset Class Operational Risk Register and asset defect register, detailing identified risks, actions, action owner and due dates for mitigation.
  • Support for Emergency Response on the Network
  • Support Asset class failure investigations and root cause analysis failure to apply lessons learned for the future performance of the Asset.

 

You don’t need to check every box; however, we are looking for a good combination of:   

  • Engineering Degree
  • Demonstrated experience in the Gas Industry, Gas engineering and asset management. Whether you’ve just started your career in Gas or been involved for a while, we would still love to hear from you.
  • Undertakes independent problem solving and management of resolution for assigned work
  • Ability to deliver with an outcome focus.
  • Ability to take initiative, display autonomy and plan pro-actively.
  • Demonstration of some commercial acumen.
